WATSON LAKE, UT, CANADA

Well, here I am in the Downtown RV Park in Watson Lake. Another rainy day but the lforecast promises that it will stop by tomorrow. People here are very friendly and proud of their territory. We met a great gal at the visitor center who loaded us up with at least 10# of reading material and virtually planned our entire trip for us.

We were starving so went to Kathy's kitchen but she had a waiting line so we left for the "said to be" great burger place. . . . Big Mistake! Each of us had a bison burger, well, the menu said it was bison. After one bite I could hardly look at mine, truly awful, absolutely disgusting. We left with weak smiles and made our way to the Science planetarium for the show. Since we had a bit of time we stopped back at Kathy's and had a piece of pie. Oh, heaven, superb pie! At last, our pie dreams were fulfilled. The show was short of spectacular. Most of it I already knew (black holes) and I couldn't quite keep my eyes open during the aurora part. Carol slept and snored through all of it.

There is one "department store" in town that gave us a big laugh, although, it was hard to cough up a laugh after the bison burger. Speaking of bison, we saw several on the road side. Also, saw 5 more black bears.

One of the star attractions in Watson Lake is the sign post forest. All I can say is it is a helluva long drive to see it. However, its kind of a sweet story. Seems this fellow working on the Alaska highway in '42 was so homesick he put up a sign pointing to home with the name and miles. Soon other workers followed suit and thus was born the sign forest. Everyone who comes to Watson Lake tacks up a sign. Everyone except me. Not in the driving rain!

Time to get ready for for today's drive north to Teslin where we see the Tlingit (pronounced klinkit) cultural center. Looking forward to that.
