Matanuska Glacier

Continuing on the Glenn Highway, we stopped at Glenallen for our second breakfast and a quick gas up. What a beautiful day! Lots of sunshine! All the better to see the mountains with my dear! The drive to our campsite was stunning. Glacier after glacier. Our campground had a trail access to views of Matanuska glacier. Wow, it was 2 miles across in places. What a sight.

We took a mile hike with Foxy to several overlooks. It was all I could do to keep Carol going. Here is this beautiful glacier and she is shooting mushrooms and lichens! She has an eye for a good photo. A one mile hike with Carol is a two hour trip. Isn't this just the cutest mushroom you ever saw!

I have been very interested in what I call the drunken trees all along the way. It is as though they get saturated with water and fall over, the cold and wind deforms them or the mistletoe kills. This is not the kind of mistletoe you get surprised under at the Christmas office party when your leacherous boss plants an opportunistic tongue thrust down your throat! This kind kills! Although, the boss kind makes you want him dead. Note the ugly orange stuff all over this poor spruce!

Tomorrow we go to Palmer and stay a few days. There are several places to see in the area plus getting the leak fixed. Oh, I did redo the Goop and of course, when I turned on the water the leak was ten fold. So Judy will be dropping more bucks along the way!

I leave you with this:
